Team Coaching Book Launch & Seminar

Sir Jack Rowell introduced the challenge of leading teams with his background as Manager of the England Rugby Team and a Member of leadership teams in Dalgety Plc.  The key message is the importance of the leader focusing on enabling and developing the capability of the team members. The leader acting as facilitator or coach.

Commander Mike Young of the Royal Navy then interviewed Peter Hawkins about why Teams are more important than ever, why a coaching approach with intact teams and how the techniques contained in the book have been developed.

The book launch was closely followed by a breakfast Seminar with attendees from various organisations across private and public sectors to discuss the role of teams and how best to develop them. We reviewed the need for teams to address the challenges of the complex and global world organisations face. The point of view is that leadership teams can address these issues better than an individual leader.

Peter Hawkins then outlined a structure to use when coaching teams. The aim being to increase the discipline and consistency of how coaches work with whole teams. This is a parallel development to that seen for individual coaching over the last few years.

In conclusion the group confirmed that developing leadership through teams was a area of increasing interest and value to add to the armoury of L&D.
