Change for sustainability

What are the change challenges of leading around sustainability?

In what way is this change issue any different to any other?

Sustainability affects every part of the business or organisation - from cradle to grave, supply chain to end of life product use, from brand image to corporate reporting, and how leaders make decisions and choices.

It attracts strong feelings - passionate advocates and determined sceptics and many who find it easy to ignore.

We have been reflecting on what makes this type of change process challenging after recent discussions at the Guardian Sustainability leadership workshop with sustainability leaders and after our successful first UK event of the ISIS Academy Masterclass on Change in Sustainability.


Welcome to Danela Ezekiel

Danela has recently joined our team as a Principal Consultant after relocating to UK from South Africa. Danela has extensive experience in leadership development, HR development, team coaching and organisational change.

Danela first became associated with Bath Consultancy Group in 1994, after meeting Peter Hawkins at a conference, firstly contracting us to work for her and then for the last 17 years, working both as a Director in a Leadership Consultancy – YSA (PTY)Ltd and on behalf of us as an associate in South Africa , Danela now joins us as a Principal Consultant.

Danela’ expertise includes guiding organisations through turbulent times. “While I believe in winning the hearts of employees toward change, change initiatives are often solely focused on this and not accompanied by learning and understanding about the change.  I have developed interventions for this for many years in various contexts".

Danela has a passion for designing bespoke interventions and development programmes “I get a thrill when I can help Bankers or Engineers access and name their feelings, not to become more human but to assist them to make better leadership and organisational choices.”

Coaching Culture

In May, Peter Hawkins launched his latest book, Creating a Coaching Culture, and many of you joined us for an evening of wine and interesting conversations.

We held a breakfast masterclass on Creating a Coaching Culture in June, when 30 colleagues from leading organisations explored with us the issues for putting
Coaching Culture theory into practice.

It also provided a networking opportunity and many new learning relationships were formed.


Learning Value Network

Our Learning Value Network continues to meet, most recent discussions centred on trust in global virtual organisations which was aptly described in a colleague's blog.

This network of OD and L&D professionals within a range of organisations has met for over 10 years and is now online in LinkedIn, so do join if you are working in an organisation on OD, L&D or Talent.


Global Network

Our global network is increasingly involved in our work with 65% of our revenues now outside the UK. We are looking to add to the network in Asia Pacific, especially Singapore and Beijing, as well as in Brazil and South America more generally where we are seeing increased demand.

At our annual network learning conference this year we will see more international colleagues than ever with people coming from from Manilla, Germany, Finland, USA, South Africa and Wales!

As part of this global network, we are providing a wider executive coaching service with a 3rd global client onboard soon – currently 50 coaches provided coaching to 200 clients over the last 3 years and numbers look set to rise especially in Asia Pacific.


Peter Hawkins Joins Henley Business School as Professor of Leadership

Our congratulations to Peter Hawkins who has joined Henley Business School as Professor of Leadership. Alongside his role as Emeritus Chairman of Bath Consultancy Group, Peter will be working at Henley for a day a week researching new forms of leadership development needed to develop the leaders of tomorrow. Peter is also visiting Professor at Oxford Brookes University and at the University of Bath as well as Honorary President of the Association of Executive Coaching and Supervision.


GP Strategies Acquires Bath Consultancy Group

Expanding Global Leadership Development Capabilities Elkridge, MD. November 18, 2010. – GP Strategies Corporation (NYSE: GPX), the corporate parent of global performance improvement solutions provider General Physics Corporation (GP), announced that GP’s wholly-owned subsidiary, General Physics (UK) Ltd, has acquired Bath Consultancy Group, a niche leadership and organizational development consulting firm located in the United Kingdom. Bath Consultancy generated revenue of $3 million for the year ending April 30, 2009 and GP Strategies anticipates that the acquired business will have increased revenue and be accretive to earnings-per-share in 2011. GP utilized cash-on-hand to fund the acquisition.
